Locals were greeted with a beautiful fall afternoon Tuesday, Nov. 7 to gather at the Bridgeport Cemetery and place flags on the graves of veterans ahead of Veterans Day.

The effort is led by the Bridgeport Youth Football Association and has plenty of others join in. Click HERE for a story on the program.

Bridgeport Cemetery Manager Tricia Bombardiere, who plays a big part in the event, offered gratitude for those who made it possible.

"I wanted to take this time to thank BYF Board members, coaches, parents, football players, cheerleaders and (Bridgeport High School) Honor society for generously volunteering your time at The Bridgeport Cemetery Tuesday evening. Your willingness to give your time and service is greatly appreciated. Your continued support allows us to fulfill our mission to recognize and honor those that served and fought for us. You placed over 1,600 flags on the veterans that's laid to rest in our cemetery and for that, you all should be proud. This was our biggest year for turn out," Bombardiere said. "Again, thank you for your continued support and I look forward to seeing you back next year."
