PHOTOS, INFORMATION SUBMITTED TO CONNECT-BRIDGEPORT
Ten Simpson Elementary fifth graders competed in the annual Modern Woodmen of America Civic Oration Contest on Wednesday, March 4, 2015. Students had to select a landmark as a topic. Participating students were: Janie Prunty, Olivia Spatafore, Matthew Miller, Mitchell Duez, Ben McDougal, Gracie Courtney, Liam Mayle, Maci Cook, Emily Hess and Haden McCarthy.
Maci Cook won the contest with a speech about the Lover's Bridge in France. Emily Hess placed second with a speech about Niagara Falls and Mitchell Duez, third, with a speech about Madison Square Garden. Other topics by students included Oak Island, Easter Island, Taj Mahal, Loch Ness, and Pompeii.
