This week, July 21- July 25 from 9 a.m. tp 2 p.m., a group of middle school and high school students are attending 3D printing camp at Robert C. Byrd Institute's Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center, Bridgeport campus. The focus of the camp is 3D printing.

This newer technology allows you to turn an innovative idea into reality. It features, Additive Manufacturing with 3D Software Design and 3D Printing. Students have the opportunity to create and manufacture ideas using the software and the printers in the RCBI Design Works Lab.

Pictured are the campers attending Wednesday's camp. They did a demonstration showcasing "Lean Manufacturing."  They were broken into two groups and the first group went through a timed course of making an Ice Cream sundae at 4 stations. Then the second group made the same sundae at one station with everything readily available. This showed the campers how efficient production can be in certain circumstances. They then proceeded upstairs to the printing lab where they were designing their own airplanes/parts and showcased some of the capabilities this newer technology had to offer.

For anyone interested in attending RCBI, they currently offer MT and CNC Machinist Programs (Associate Degrees), and classes will be starting soon. Ii's not too late to register.
