Not all of the Christmas stockings will be hung by the chimney this holiday season, thanks to the Quiet Dell Community Educational Outreach Service club continuing its annual November tradition of creating stockings for the United Hospital Center’s obstetrics department. Members of the club crafted 100 Christmas stockings that will be used to cuddle newborn babies at the hospital in December. The red flannel stockings are designed in such a manner as to allow the baby to comfortably fit in much the same way as if they were wrapped in a blanket.

The club has been providing the Christmas stockings to the hospital for the past several years. The Auxiliary to United Hospital Center reimburses the Quiet Dell CEOS club for the cost of the material used in creating the wrapping for the families’ bundles of joy, which sends the Quiet Dell club members scurrying to find the best deals for the red flannel material.

More than 70 yards of material is needed each year for the project, prompting members to not only search local stores, but also the tri-state area for the best deals. The material has come from stores in West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia. The Quiet Dell CEOS club is one of 18 such clubs in Harrison County.
