The Machinist Technology/CNC Program at the Robert C. Byrd Institute (RCBI) in Bridgeport has earned reaccreditation from the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS). The five-year recertification followed a rigorous examination that determined that the RCBI program continues to meet or exceed benchmark quality standards established by NIMS on behalf of the nation’s precision manufacturing industry.
Offered in both Bridgeport and Huntington, the RCBI Machinist Technology/CNC Program boasts nearly 500 graduates, who have earned more than 1,600 individual NIMS credentials.RCBI students and apprenticeship participants received more than 97 percent of the NIMS credentials awarded in West Virginia during 2015.

\The RCBI program was established in direct response to industry’s critical shortage of skilled machinists. The RCBI program is the only one of its kind in West Virginia and was the first in the nation to require its graduates to earn individual NIMS credentials. An option in the program enables individuals to earn a career-enhancing associate degree from Mountwest Community & Technical College. As a result, the RCBI program has been endorsed by NIMS as a national model for community and technical colleges.
