Reminder: City Christmas Parade, Jingle Bell Jog, Pancake Feed Saturday Morning; Main Street Closed

By Julie Perine on December 02, 2016 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

In connection with Saturday's Christmas Parade, Bridgeport Police remind residents that Main Street will be closed from Virginia Avenue to Fifth Street, starting at 9:50 a.m. Between 5 a.m. and noon, on-street parking will not be permitted on Fifth Street or on Grand Avenue between Third and Fifth streets.

“That’s where much of the parade lines up,” said Lt. John Post . “Officers will be checking to ensure vehicles are off the streets and if owners cannot be found, we’ll have to move them.”

The parade, which proceeds from Fifth Street to the Benedum Civic Center on Main Street, begins at 10 a.m. According to Bridgeport Parks and Recreation, nearly 50 units are expected to participate.

Main Street will reopen to traffic between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m., Post said. Detours will be in place and clearly marked during that time.

Bridgeport Police remind parade units to not stop and unload on the railroad tracks and if proceeding across the tracks before dispensing to make sure they are completely across. It’s also imperative, Post said, not to block oncoming units, leaving room for them to get around.

The annual Jingle Bell Jog fitness walk/run, also a toy drive for the Salvation Army, will precede the parade, beginning 8:30 a.m. at the Benedum Civic Center. The Civic Center is also the location of the Lions' Club Pancake Feed which will be held 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
