Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center to Screen Marvel Blockbuster Black Panther in February

The Robinson Grand Performing Arts Centeris set to screen the 2018 Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster Black Panther in downtown Clarksburg on Sunday, Feb. 12, at the historic Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center located at 444 W. Pike St. in Clarksburg.
 
Starring Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, and Lupita Nyong’o – Black Panther is the story of T-Challa, king of the advanced African nation Wakanda. When a powerful old enemy reappears, T’Challa is tested – both as a king and as the Black Panther – to save his homeland.
 
“Marvel was already well established for incredible blockbuster movies when Black Panther was released,” said Jason A Young, the Robinson Grand’s program manager. “However, this film elevated the entire MCU, broke some barrios, and made some history.”
 
Black Pantherpremiered in Los Angeles on January 29, 2018, and was released theatrically in the United States on February 16, as part of Phase Three of the MCU. Critics praised its direction, writing, acting, costume design, production values, and soundtrack. Many critics considered the film to be one of the best in the MCU, and it was also noted for it’s cultural significance. Black Panther was named one of the top ten films of 2018 and was nominated for seven awards at the 91st Academy Awards, winning three.
 
Black Panther was the first superhero movie to receive a Best Picture nomination,” said Young. “And the first MCU film to win in several Oscar categories.”
 
Tickets for Black Panther are free to Friends of the Robinson Grand and employees of the City of Clarksburg. General admission tickets will go on sale for only $7 at 10 a.m. on Friday.
