Sign Set for Medbrook Children's Charity Inclusive Playground

By Julie Perine on August 11, 2022 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Signage was placed Wednesday on the future site of the Medbrook Children’s Charity Inclusive Playground. In fact, the sign is located at the spot where the entry to the playground will be, on the lawn just outside Citynet Center at The Bridge Sports Complex.

It’s another step in making the facility a reality, said Mayor Andy Lang, member of Friends of Bridgeport Parks and Recreation Inc.

“This project has been in the works for quite a while, and we have a couple of major donations already and we’re going to be out in the community looking for more to get this project funded. The design work is pretty much completed, and we just wanted to get some signage up to get everyone excited. There are lots of questions. People said they hear about the playground, but ask where it’s going to be. We wanted to identify where it’s going to go and provide a whole visual experience of what’s going on.”

About $500,000 has been raised toward the $1 million project. Medbrook Children’s Charity, Jaclyn and Johnnie Rominger, Bridgeport Rotary Club, and Bridgeport Lions Club are among those extending funding for the project.

A grassroots program, Friends of Bridgeport Recreation Inc. has reached out to experts to gather ideas on the playground design, a project that has been discussed among City Council, city entities and civic clubs since early-2021. The goal is to create opportunities for play while removing barriers. The playground will allow children with disabilities to play alongside their friends and family to create a truly inclusive environment.
The Friends of Bridgeport Recreation Inc. is a 501c3 charitable organization aimed at providing positive programs and activities for recreation and leisure in a manner which promotes health, wellness, community, and lasting memories. Any gifts made are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
