Thousands have been restored and just 52 Harrison County Mon Power customers remain without power Monday morning.

Todd Meyers of Mon Power/First Energy said the company had more than 30,000 total customers impacted from this past weekend’s rain, remnants of Tropical Storm Gordon. Outages started Saturday evening; all but about 3,000 restored as of 8:30 a.m. today.

“All outages were wind, rain and tree-related and our crews have been working around the clock to get our customers restored as quickly and safely as possible,” Meyers said.

Today could be the calm before the storm, he said.

“We are focused on the possibility of remnants of Hurricane Florence bringing more heavy rains and winds to West Virginia next weekend if the storm makes landfall in the Carolinas,” Meyers said.

Locally, there was additional aftermath resulting from weekend rains. Bridgeport Parks and Recreation Director Joe Shuttleworth said a large tree came down Simpson Creek and became wedged against the bridge that leads into Bridgeport City Park.

“We shut down the bridge (Sunday),” said Shuttleworth, adding that he, City Engineer Beth Fox and Superintendent of Public Works Fred Burton are meeting this morning to inspect the bridge and decide on a plan to repair and/or remove it.
