United Technical Center’s Welding and Drafting classes have partnered with Johnson Elementary School to provide bicycle racks for elementary school students who ride their bikes to school but have no place to park them.

Eric Younkins, UTC Welding Instructor, was contacted by Bethany Kulchock, Johnson Elementary Fifth Grade Teacher, with a request for UTC to design and create two bicycle racks.

Joseph Miller, a student in the UTC Drafting Company, Build a Dream Incorporated, designed and sketched the blueprint.

Levi Starkey, Jesse Powell and Frankie Spring, students in the UTC Welding Company, Mountain State Welding and Fab, utilized the blueprints to fabricate and paint the bike racks.

Welding Instructor, Eric Younkins, received several letters of appreciation from the fifth-grade students and said, “The letters were the highlight of our day, and it was our absolute pleasure to be able to help out.”

The bike racks were delivered to the school on March 9.
