Unlocked Cars Still Being Entered, Items Stolen; Bridgeport PD Urges Residents to Lock Vehicles, Remove Valuable Items

According to Bridgeport Police Department, unlocked vehicles continue to be entered and items stolen. Assistant Bridgeport Police Chief Randy Hartley said the department begs residents to lock all vehicles and remove any items of value.

“We’re already up to seven or eight reports of vehicles being entered with valuables taken,” he said. “There has been no forced entry so these are crimes of opportunity because people are not locking their vehicles.”

The first string of vehicles entered was last week on Garden Circle and Carriage Lane. The most recent incidents are close by.

“They are just across the street, on Ridgeway Drive and Valley Drive,” Hartley said.

The incidents are happening overnight with vehicles parked along streets and in driveways.

“But it’s sometimes during the day when people discover their vehicles were entered,” Hartley said.

Residents are urged to lock their vehicles and their homes and to report any suspicious activity.

“Please dial 911 and let our patrol officers know and they will check on your suspicions,” Hartley said.
