BHS Alum Josh Oldaker Takes Lead Role in Christmas Classic

Josh Oldaker is no stranger to the stage.  The 2005 BHS alumnus has traveled the country, playing hundreds of concerts, but portraying a grumpy old man is a totally new adventure him. Oldaker will be playing the lead role in Scrooge, a play presented by the Trinity Assembly of God December 5-7.  The tale, based on the familiar "A Christmas Carol," is directed by Jeff and Heather Nichols and is free to everyone.

“I was really excited when I heard about auditions for the play,” said Oldaker.  “It reminded me of all the great memories of being on stage at BHS.”

As Ebenezer Scrooge, Oldaker will lead the cast through a series of events that point to the true meaning of Christmas.  “In this version, Scrooge not only finds out what Christmas is all about, but accepts the Lord into his heart and is transformed into a man full of peace, hope and joy,” Oldaker said.

With his first play, worship music leader Jeff Nichols has found a unique way to get the message out to the community.  “If even one person is reached by this play, it was all worth it,” said Nichols.

Oldaker has no hesitation when it comes using his talents to honor God.  He drove more than 50,000 miles around the country, offering free concerts during his “Heal Me” tour in 2009.  The experience was life-changing to him, as he had to rely on the kindness of strangers for lodging and food.  “I now know that sharing my faith is the most important thing I can do.  Sometimes it’s through a song, sometimes it’s through a story, and this time, it’s through a play.”
