BHS Key Club Students Raise Awareness, Funds for The Eliminate Project

It is estimated that over a million infants die each year from tetanus in developing countries.  The BHS Key Club hopes to reduce those numbers significantly by educating students and the community about the Eliminate Project.

As one of the premier missions of Kiwanis and UNICEF, The Eliminate Project aims to immunize more than 100 million mothers and babies around the world in order to eradicate tetanus.  To accomplish this, the two organizations, along with Key Clubs from around the world, are raising the $110 million dollars necessary to put the vaccination process into action.  “They need syringes, safe storage, transportation, staff and of course, the vaccines in order to eliminate tetanus around the world,” said Key Club Advisor Kathy Cox.

In an assembly next Thursday at BHS, Key Clubbers will raise awareness of The Eliminate Project by present statistics and information about this opportunity to make a difference.  As a service organization, they are dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the Eliminate Project.  “We will be collecting money during homerooms on Friday,” said Key Club President Sophia Lateef.  “We will also be doing fundraisers throughout the year to send to the project.”

Key Club is the world’s largest student led community service organization, boasting nearly 260,000 students.  Known for service projects with UNICEF, March of Dimes, and Children’s Miracle Network, the group also has a substantial impact on the local community.  BHS Key Clubbers spend each Wednesday volunteering with the residents of Meadowview Manor and are actively involved with the Kiwanis Club.  Anyone who wishes to make a donation to the Eliminate Project can send a check, made out to BHS, to Kathy Cox at the high school.
