Bridgeport High School has named Mira Blount and Jeremiah Woods as its students of the month for April.

Mira is a current senior at Bridgeport High School and is the daughter of Chris and Holly Blount.

Throughout high school, Mira has taken a multitude of Honors, AP, and Dual Credit courses while still maintaining over a 4.0 GPA and status as a perfect honor roll student. She earned an Academic Letter her freshman year and Lamps her sophomore, junior, and senior years.

Mira was inducted into the National Honor Society her junior year and she currently serves as the society's Treasurer. She has also been a member of the Spanish Honor Society since her sophomore year and served as the Project Chairman for the group this year. She is a four-year member of student council, as a current member of its Executive Board, and has also participated in Key Club and Spanish Club.

Through these groups, Mira has and continues to volunteer for service projects, for school and the community, such as Shop for Tots, Shepard's Corner canned food drive, Angel Luv program, and making and serving dinner at the Clarksburg Mission.

Mira competed as a varsity Cross Country and Track & Field athlete through high school and had the opportunity to compete in the State Meet for both sports. Outside of school, Mira works as a lifeguard and swim lesson Instructor. She has played piano for ten years and enjoys practicing in her free time and plays for her church every Sunday.

Mira will be attending Brigham Young University in Rexburg, Idaho this fall to study Nursing and eventually become a Nurse Practitioner in the Emergency Room.

As written by Woods:

My experience at Bridgeport has been a rewarding one. I have been involved in Spanish courses since my freshman year, I had the pleasure of being nominated for the Spanish Honor Society. This membership allowed me to experience volunteer work at various locations as we helped the community better understand Spanish while utilizing my skills and knowledge in the subject area.

I also participated in lacrosse for four years with the Harrison County Lacrosse Association. I learned about hard work and teamwork while being on the team. It also was very enjoyable to play the many different teams from across the state. Being on the team also gave me an opportunity to meet others who were not from our school.

What I most enjoyed about my high school career was my participation in Strings. I have played the violin since middle school, and it is my favorite thing to do. High School orchestra has been very rewarding and exciting. In addition to our school concerts, I have participated in the Honors Orchestra, and I also have been invited to perform at various private events. My highlight of it all was that I was selected to perform at the WVMEA High School All-State Orchestra.

In the future, I plan to attend West Virginia University where I plan on majoring in Computer Engineering and minoring in Music. I hope to also play in the Orchestra professionally someday. Despite all of the setbacks that came our way during our high school career, I am so thankful that my experience was of value, and I will cherish my experiences from Bridgeport High School to better myself and those around me.
