BHS Names Johnson, Allen Students of Month for September

Bridgeport High School has announced its students of the month for September. They are Marra Johnson and Reese Allen.
Marra Johnson, daughter of Rick and Dee Johnson, is a very involved student athlete of Bridgeport 
High School.
 
She currently serves as the Student Body President and has achieved a perfect honor roll above a 4.0 GPA while managing Advanced Placement, Honors and College courses, as well as competing in two sports throughout her four years.
 
Marra received her academic letter for her freshman year and earned an academic lamp her sophomore and junior years. She was inducted into the National Honor Society her junior year. 
 
Marra has been an active member of student council, serving as freshman treasurer, a member of the executive board, and student body membership. She has led and participated in several community service projects and volunteer efforts like the Children's Hospital blanket program, stockings donated to the Clarksburg Mission, Healthy Grand-families, Challenger baseball league mentor, United Way gift wrapping, community canned food drives, and volunteered for the Jack Strong 5K.
 
She appeared in the anti-bullying film the Zombie Club and participated in the Zombie Walk fundraiser. She recently volunteered as a spotter for the WV Open. Marra was selected as a participant for the Rotary Youth Leadership Award Camp and received the Student Council's Exemplary Leadership Award her freshman year. 
 
Marra was also a member of the Spanish Club where she was an International Fair Ambassador, and a member of the Drug Free Club. Her sophomore year, she was in the Dance Ensemble and competed at Adjudication in Charleston. She was recently voted as a homecoming court princess for her senior year. 
 
Throughout her high school career, Marra has lettered in both swimming and golf. Marra has been swimming since the age of 5. She swims competitively all year for the Parkersburg YMCA Sharks. At BHS, she has earned BB&T Athlete of the Week and Harrison County Swimmer of the Year honors. Each year she has earned 1st team All County, All Big 10, and All Region accolades. She has placed 4th and 5th in the 100 breaststroke, 5th in the 500 freestyle, and 4th and 6th in the 200 IM at the WVSSAC State Championship. She currently holds the 100 Breaststroke record for the school, county and region, and is a member of the 200 Medley Relay school record. 
 
Marra started playing golf about four years ago and was also a member of the co-ed golf team, where this year she was the only girl on the team. She was a low medalist, and earned BB&T Athlete of the Week, Honda Athlete of the Week, and 2nd team All Big 10 honors. She placed 8th in the WVSSAC Girls State Invitational and was a competing member of the Big 10 and Regional Teams. During the last three summers, Marra competed in the WV Golf Association's Callaway Junior Tour. 
 
In addition to swimming and golf, Marra has danced for the Studio of Performing Arts since the age of 4, and she has trained since the age of 8 at Gorilla Strength and Fitness. For the last 3 years, Marra has worked at Bridgeport Country Club in the golf pro shop. Along with her pro shop duties, she helped with youth golf lessons as well as swim lessons for the BCC swim team. She also worked at Rejuvenation Health Spa this past summer. In her free time, Marra loves shop, spend time with her friends, and travel. Her favorite vacation spot is Aruba. 
 
Marra is her final stages of the college selection process. She is still undecided as to where she will be attending, but she does plan to further both her academic and athletic career. She is planning to study Exercise Physiology then complete her doctorate in Physical Therapy. 
 
Reese Allen is the son of Amy and Mark Allen and brother of BHS alumni Nicholas Allen.
 
Allen participates in a large variety of school organizations and activities.
 
A current member of the BHS Band and previous member of the percussion ensemble, Allen was selected as the 2021-2022 drum major from the position of acting drum captain and has the led the band through a multitude of football games and parades.
 
Allen spent time on stage throughout his high school years, acquiring the major roles of Peter Pevensie in Narnia, anarrator in Charlotte's Web, and the Cat In The Hat for this year's production of Seussical the Musical.
 
 In addition, Allen made contributions to the BHS one act last year and serves as the current music director of this year's show. As a member of the BUMC Choir, Allen has contributed to great works of musical performance and public display. 
 
Reese has dedicated a large amount of time pursuing interests and athletics after school hours. He is a four-year member of the BHS Swim Team and a lifelong club swimmer (through programs like BST, HAYST, and the more recent Mountain State Storm). He has made state finals twice and scored in the official heats of multiple events.
 
In addition, Allen has been named as swim team captain and has been recognized as a first team all region swimmer this past season. In addition to swimming, Allen is the current president of the Bridgeport High School chapter of the National Honors Society and has worked to organize group meetings, establish procedures, and form an agenda.
 
Reese also spends a portion of each week employed by the Ford Funeral Home and the owner, Brad Ford. As of now, Allen intends to pursue a career in mechanical and aerospace engineering in the fall semester of 2022.
