Students at Bridgeport High School have always known Haleigh Mardos as a leader.  Now, the rest of the nation knows, as she is one of only two recipients in the state to be recognized with the 2015 Emerging Leader Honor Award from National DECA.

DECA is an association of marketing and business students dedicated to developing professional young people who are academically prepared and community minded. Mardos has proven to possess those qualities and more as she has demonstrated her leadership skills both in the school and in the community.  She currently serves as the Bridgeport High School DECA President and has been on the leadership team for her entire duration at BHS.  She has spearheaded public relations campaigns, fundraising programs, and community events with the program and continues to use her influence to inspire those around her.

Mardos is a National Honor Society member and an active Key Club member and has also been an ambassador for the International Fair at BHS.  She has placed first in the state in the Virtual Business Challenge and was honored to receive the Best Team Leader Award at DECA’s International Thrive Academy for Leadership.  She was chosen as Student of the Month and regularly volunteers at the Clarksburg City Mission, the National Veterans’ Wheelchair Games and at her church.

She is currently serving as an intern at Meadowbrook Mall and intends to attend WVU in the fall, majoring in Marketing. “Receiving the Emerging Leader Honor Award helps validate all my hard work and dedication to DECA.  Being chosen as only one of three in the state is so exciting and I hope I can use this experience to help further my career aspirations,” said Mardos.
