BHS Students Bring Home Nine Trophies in WVU High School Journalism Competition

Seven Bridgeport High School students took home nine trophies from the West Virginia University High School Journalism competition sponsored by the Reed College of Media. The awards luncheon was held on April 10 in the Mountainlair ballroom. Entries were judged by members of the faculty.
 
The BHS winners are as follows:
 
Hannah Fetty—2nd Place, Advertising;  Ross Marra—1st Place, Broadcast; Jeff McCullough—1st Place, Critical Review and  3rd Place, Opinion Writing; Mateah Kittle—2nd Place, Feature Layout and Design; Kryssie Wertheim—3rd Place, Photography;  Maggie Lohmann—1st Place, Feature Writing and 2nd Place, Public Relations; Maya Flowers—3rd Place, Public Relations.
 
 
“I really enjoyed being with our journalism department and seeing all of the awards we were given,” shared Flowers.
 
McCullough was grateful for the opportunity and said, “It was nice to receive recognition for the hard work we put into writing and designing.”
 
Mrs. Alice Rowe enjoys the learning opportunity the event provided. “I’m always so proud of my students. I think it’s a great experience for them to compete with students from other states. I feel like this competition shows them how much they are able to do with the program they are involved in.”
