Bridgeport High School Key Club Creates Nearly 100 Blankets for WVU Children's Hospital Patients

Being away from home when you are ill is never a good thing.  But being a child with a serious illness, spending weeks or months in a hospital, can be devastating to families who simply want to offer comfort and support to their little ones.  The Bridgeport High School Key Club decided offering comfort was something they could do to help ease the burden of the families with children in the WVU Children's
 Hospital.

Aisha Hashmi was selected to chair a project in which the members of Key Club would create blankets to donate to the Children’s Hospital.  With the family and community focus that the hospital initiates, the blankets would be a perfect source of comfort for those who are ill.

Mallory Rinker, this year’s WV District Governor of Key Club helped Hashmi apply for a grant that provided funds for supplies.  “Our advisors, Kathy Cox, Charlene Keener and Charlea Ramsey all helped make this project a success,” said Hashmi.  “We selected the material and devised a plan to complete as many blankets as possible to help the kids in the hospital.”

That plan included making blankets in meetings, in school and at home for many of the members.  The endless work was worth it when they presented a total of 96 blankets to the WVU Children’s Hospital in late May.

“It was such a wonderful project and really brought the members together for a common cause. It opened my eyes to how easy it is to help people in the community, especially sick children who need it most.”
