"Celebrate My Drive" Safe Driving Campaign Rolls into BHS

Along with pumping up the student body for tonight’s home football contest against the North Marion Huskies, Bridgeport High School has focused on a campaign to keep students – and all members of the community - safe.

Students of Emilee Stout’s driver education class have been combining their handiwork and brainpower to design posters for the school’s “Celebrate My Drive” campaign. Sponsored by State Farm Insurance, the project has been open to high schools in an effort to convince new drivers to fully concentrate on driving skills while they’re at the wheel.

The student drivers are making a pledge to do that – and they ask members of the community to do the same.

“The purpose of this pledge is to further educate new drivers to drive safely,” Stout said. “State Farm has developed ‘2n2,’ which means keep two eyes on the road and two hands on the wheel. This is a great way for new drivers to remember those basic rules at all times while driving. Our students have done a great job at promoting this campaign and I hope to see a lot of people commit.”

To abide by the ‘2n2,’ drivers must refrain from texting and any other activities which requires taking one hand off the wheel.
To drive that point home, Stout’s students have created some artwork, which has been featured on the school’s closed circuit news channel, “Indian Insider,” as well as throughout the school and in promotion material for tonight’s football game, which is also senior night.

“We are asking our community, students and families to help in their pledge to make our area safer, primarily focusing on all teenage drivers,” Stout said.

“All you have to do is submit your email, age, select Bridgeport High School, answer two simple questions and pledge to safe driving,” Stout said.

The campaign is in effect through Oct. 24.
