Children's Book Launch Party Featuring Local Talent and Familiar Elf

A familiar elf will be visiting Bridgeport this weekend.  No, it’s not Will Ferrell or even the menacing “Elf on the Shelf”, but one created right here in our hometown.  Piper the Elf, the adorable elf that helped Santa improve his health in “Piper the Elf Trains Santa”, is returning in Colleen Driscoll’s second book, “Piper the Elf and Santa’s Rockin’ Band.”

Driscoll received the Mom’s Choice Award in 2013 for her first children’s book, which focused on a very relatable problem during the holidays:  overeating and not moving enough.  Through her Piper the Elf character, she was able to show families that even Santa struggles with that problem and the book showed how exercise could be fun.

In the new book, Piper finds herself with a growing appreciation of music, as she and her fellow elves create a band for Santa’s annual Christmas Party.  Through the process, they learn all about teamwork and practicing and how loving music is easy for anyone to do.

To celebrate “Piper the Elf and Santa’s Rockin’ Band,”Driscoll is hosting a book launch party on October 12 at 1:00 at the Benedum Civic Center.  The event is open to the public and will be showcasing local talent, including the BHS Orchestra, RCB Orchestra, Annabel Timms School of Ballet, the BUMC Seraphim Singers, and a violin duo performed by Ashley Driscoll and Sydney McDonald.  There will be a special live performance of Piper and the band, courtesy of BHS’s Thespian Troupe.  The new book will be available at a discounted price during the event.  An audio CD of four original songs composed by her and performed by her family will also be available at the event.

“I am really excited about igniting passion for music and making it accessible for everyone,” said Driscoll.  “I will be traveling to local elementary schools this year with both of my books and, who knows, may find the inspiration for a new Piper adventure in the process.”
