For the third year in a row, Harrison County Schools will be showcasing and developing the talent of students who are interested in theatre.  Summer Theatre Camp will take place August 1-5 at the Bridgeport High School Auditorium and students will have the opportunity to dabble in every aspect of theatre, both center stage and behind the scenes.

“This year, we have professionals who will be working directly with the students to hone their skills in improvisation, acting, movement, music and more,” said BHS Theatre teacher Jared Brown.  Brown has been involved every year with the camp and is amazed by the transition that takes place in just five days.

Workshops will include lighting, props, movement, bios, voice, dance, costuming, scene painting, theatre history, auditions, design, tech, set building, music, makeup, improv, and of course, acting.

“It’s a comprehensive emersion into every aspect of theatre, so virtually every student can find something in which he or she excels,” said Brown.

All Harrison County High Schools will be working together for the interactive camp which will be offered free of charge to students in grades 3-12.  The morning session, from 10:00a.m. to noon, will be geared toward students beginning third through sixth grade this year.  The afternoon session, from 11:30a.m. to 2:00p.m..caters to those entering seventh through twelfth grade in the fall.

Students will receive a “Playbill” on which to record their experiences and campers will be featured in a daily “curtain call” to acknowledge all their hard work.

“Harrison County Schools is dedicated to increasing education in the arts and the resources put into this camp has proven to be invaluable to students interested in pursuing a future in the arts,” said Brown.  “The exposure to the full range of careers in the theatrical arts provides something for everyone and it is so exciting to watch students find their niche.”

Parents may register online at findyourlight@outlook.com or may sign up the first day of camp in August.
