Johnson Elementary PTA Hosts Fun Run to Raise Money for New Playground

Sometimes it takes little feet to make a big difference.  In an effort to raise funds for new playground equipment and accessories, Johnson Elementary will be hosting a Fun Run/Walk on Friday, September 12 at the BHS Track.

“We want to create a healthy and active environment for our school and really get them moving,” said Principal Vicki Huffman.

In less than two generations, physical activity has dropped 32 percent among youth.  With an outdated playground and limited resources, the Johnson Elementary PTA is taking this opportunity to raise funds while increasing the activity level of the students.

“The Intensity Fitness Play Complex will help get our kids moving, spinning, climbing and jumping,” says Huffman.

One hundred percent of the funds will go directly toward the goal and there is even an option for online donations at https://99pledges.com/fund/JESPTAFunRunWalk.  For those donating online, specific students can be designated in order to receive credit for incentives.

Students who raise $50-$100 will receive a bronze medal.  Those raising $101-$250 will receive a silver medal and those raising over $251 will get a gold medal and a gift bag of surprises.  The student who raises the most in each grade will also receive a gift card.  Corporate donations are also encouraged and those who donate will have name recognition on a plaque next to the new playground.

The Johnson Elementary PTA will also be receiving their National PTA School of Excellence Award in Charleston this week for its outstanding teamwork with the school and community.
