Local Educator Chosen To Present At National Conference

While the rest of us were trying to relive the spirit of the original Thanksgiving, one local educator traveled to the area where it all began.  Bridgeport Middle School teacher, Keri Lambert, was honored to be chosen as a presenter at the 94th Annual National Council for the Social Studies Annual Conference in Boston.

“Out of over 1300 applicants, my co-presenter and I were chose to present a session called ‘License to Motivate, Interactive Strategies to Promote Learning in the 21st Century Classroom,” said Lambert.

The session provided hands-on activities that allow students to make connections within their learning process.

“I believe that students need to engage in the concepts and collaborate in order to strengthen their understanding,” said Lambert.

Lambert, who teaches English and West Virginia History at BMS, also has a strong background in teaching in history, social studies and gifted programs.  Having developed curriculum and instructional strategies for students and staff in both West Virginia and Virginia has given Lambert a unique perspective through which to present at the national conference.  Lambert developed a school-wide remediation program for her former school in Chesapeake, VA, where she also served as Chairperson of the History Department.  While there, she co-authored Lessons for the Social Studies Classroom, a textbook designed to raise scores on standardized testing.

Named Teacher of the Year twice, Lambert has also been honored as a Distinguished Guest for the USS Eisenhower.  She was a Horace Mann Mugs and Kisses recipient and named Cheer Coach of the Year.  Her expertise clearly goes beyond the field of Social Studies, but it is in that field that she is proud to be representing BMS as a presenter in Boston.

“Professionally and personally, this is such an honor,” said Lambert.  “In addition to the thrill of presenting and representing our area, I am also excited to learn new strategies and ideas to bring back and share with other teachers in our region.”
