Summer is only 21 weeks away.  In the midst of planning vacation, high school students might also want to explore an “out of this world” opportunity being offered by NASA.  Eleven high school students and 13 college students will be selected to take part in the program, which will offer hands-on training and provide unique NASA-related research and operational experiences to the interns.

NASA Education Specialist Jess White will be meeting with Bridgeport High School juniors and seniors during homeroom on February 2 to discuss details of the opportunity.  “These internships integrate real-world applications,” said White.  “Students will be engaging in scientific or engineering research, development, and operations that enhance classroom knowledge.”

In addition to STEM-related internships, there will also be non-technical opportunities to work in activities that support NASA business and administrative processes.  “Our goal is to increase their professional capabilities and clarify their long-term career goals,” said White.

Counselor Jane Byrd is thrilled to host the presentation.  “We have some of the best and the brightest minds at BHS and it’s exciting to think that they have the chance to work with NASA,” she said.
