By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on May 06, 2016 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Bridgeport High School was the site of a new type of quiz bowl competition on Saturday, April 30.  The Developmental Quiz Bowl Competition was designed for the students in grades 8-10 to have the chance to compete without the upper class students answering all of the questions.

There were eight schools in attendance with each one bringing one team except for BHS. Bridgeport had two teams.

In the morning each team had the opportunity to compete in four or five rounds and the average scores determined their placement in the single elimination in the afternoon.  Bridgeport High School B was 2-2 in the morning and defeated Pocahontas in the afternoon before losing to George Washington. Members of that team were Dalton Colton, Joseph Holbert, Owen Hess and Alex Rajjoub.

Team A was 4 -0 in the morning and defeated Parkersburg in the afternoon before losing to Ripley.  Members of this team were David Walker, Collin MacFarland, Vincent Pinti, Lilah Kimble and Raeanne Beckner.  They placed third on the day with George Washington placing first and Ripley second.

Talking to the coaches there was an encouragement for more of these developmental competitions to be held.  Pocahontas was entering its first-ever competition and their coach was glad to meet other coaches and see how quiz bowl was played, officials said.

BHS's Varsity A team was present to help with reading the questions, scoring and giving assistance as needed.
