Don't Miss Sunday's Winter Market at Bridgeport Conference Center

By Julie Perine on January 10, 2015 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Sunday will mark the third installment of this year’s Bridgeport Farmers Market winter season. Since its November beginning, it’s been a record year, said President Debbie Workman.

“For the first two, we averaged 30 vendors and that is unheard of,” she said. “Last year, we probably averaged 20 vendors so the winter season has gone right along with our regular season. It’s exceeded everybody’s expectations and been tremendous. We’ve seen growth in the number of customers, vendors and sales.”

Held inside Bridgeport Conference Center, the winter market runs November through April, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the second Sunday of each month.

“This month, we have a limited amount of produce, as well as meat and eggs,” Workman said. “We’ll also have some of our West Virginia artisans and music by Rus Reppert.”

Available meats include grass-fed beef, farm raised chicken, lamb and pork. Eggs are fresh from the farm and a number of housewares and gift items are straight from the hands of artisans who specialize in pottery, jewelry and wood crafted items, among others. Shoppers can also purchase West Virginia honey, natural body products, vintage items and baked goods.

“People can also purchase Winter Jazz Weekend tickets at the Bridgeport Arts Council table,” Workman said. “We encourage people to support that weekend – Jan. 23-24 at Bridgeport Conference Center. It’s a great event in January, when there is little else to do.  (Read more about Winter Jazz Weekend HERE.)

As always, a local foods brunch featuring market products will be served by the Bridgeport Conference Center. Call 304-808-3000 for brunch reservations.

At the midpoint of this year’s winter season, Farmers Market organizers area already looking forward to the seventh spring/summer season, to be launched in May, 2015.

“We anticipate big things for the market this year,” Workman said.
