Don't Miss Winter Market this Sunday and Plan to Attend One - or More - 2014 Community Dinners

By Julie Perine on January 03, 2014 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Even in the dead of winter, Bridgeport Farmers Market is alive and well, offering you a one-stop shop for the purchase of locally-raised foods.

The season’s second Winter Market of the season will be held 11 a.m-2 p.m. Sunday inside Bridgeport Conference Center.

Vendors and products include local produce, grass-fed beef, farm-raised chicken, pork and lamb, baked goods – including organic varieties – jams and jellies, organic bean soup mixes, Bloody Butcher corn meal and artisan selections including pottery, wood platters and bowls, handcrafted jewelry, vintage items and all-natural beauty products.

Adding to the hometown atmosphere will be guitarist Rus Reppert, who will be performing live acoustic tunes.

As always, the Bridgeport Conference Center culinary staff will be preparing brunch, utilizing the market’s signature farm-to-table approach. For reservations, call 304-808-3000.

Also a highlight of Sunday’s winter market will be the unveiling and ticket sales for this year’s slate of community dinners.

All 2014 events will be held at Bridgeport Conference Center. The list follows:

Monday March 17th – Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day
Friday June 20th – A summer feast
Monday September 22nd – A harvest celebration
Wednesday November 12 – Welcome in winter

The list of reasons the community should take advantage of the dinners is as long as the palate-pleasing menus of the events, said Bridgeport Farmers Market President Debbie Workman.

Local foods are used in the preparation of all dinners and proceeds benefit the BFM, which charges no vendor fees and is entirely run by volunteers.

“Outstanding menus are prepared by Chef Dale Hawkins and the chefs of the Bridgeport Conference Center,” Workman said. “It’s a great opportunity to show your support for our local Farmers Market.”

Tickets for each dinner are $20 per person and can be reserved by calling 304-669-4340 or via email at
bridgeportfarmersmarket@yahoo.com.

The Bridgeport Farmers Market Winter Market continues the first Sunday of every month thru April.

In May, the market’s regular season debuts and will be open at the marketplace in Charles Pointe on a weekly basis.

It’s hard to believe BFM is preparing to launch its sixth season, Workman said.

“We plan to continue our growth and have many surprises in store for the community,” she said.

Opening date in May is yet to be determined.
