Those who frequent Bridgeport Farmers Market at Charles Pointe describe the atmosphere as “small-town,” “relaxing,” “informational” and even “dog friendly.”

On Sept. 28, dogs will actually be the focus of the weekly market. In an effort to educate the public about canine companions and the world of purebred dogs, the Greater Clarksburg Kennel Club will hold a “Responsible Dog Owner Day” and “Meet the Breed” event at the Marketplace.

Bridgeport Farmers Market President Debbie Workman said the Market is happy to pair up with the organization and add yet another element of community to the event, which is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays.

“The BFM thinks it is a good fit because we have always been a huge dog-friendly market,” Workman said. “We have been wanting to do a dog event for years so when the Kennel Club approached us, we said yes with enthusiasm!”

Market vendor HeelBilly Hound Treats is gearing up for the partnership, as well, and will be offering some natural dog treat specials that day.

Members of Greater Clarksburg Kennel Club will present purebreds and answer questions regarding characteristics of particular breeds. Demonstrations will be presented by obedience dogs and handlers, who will be available to provide information regarding training and participation in American Kennel Club-recognized competitions. Therapy dog teams will be on hand to provide information about community activities. The Kennel Club conducts training classes on a regular basis and promotes dog shows, exhibitions and performance events under rules and regulations of the AKC. The organization likewise strives to promote cooperation and good sportsmanship.
All “dog people” are invited to join the group and attend meetings held the second Wednesday of the month. For more information, email GCKCWV@gmail.com
