Gobble Gobble Winter Market Opens Sunday

This Sunday, Bridgeport Farmers Market moves indoors and will be held monthly through April. Pegged the "Gobble Gobble" market, indoor market debut will feature 37 vendors which will be housed inside the Bridgeport Conference Center.

“We’re promoting it as a market for people to come and buy items for their Thanksgiving dinner,” said Debbie Workman of the BFM board of directors. “They’ll be able to order farm-raised turkeys on that day and we’ll have a limited supply of fall vegetables, lots of baked goods and a full range of farm-raised eggs.”

Since the market will be held only once per month during the winter, it’s a good idea to stock up on needed market goods, Workman said.

Not only are market organizers targeting the Thanksgiving holiday, but they’re also thinking ahead to Christmas.

“Bring your holiday shopping list,” Workman said. “All of our West Virginia artisans will be there.”

Among artisans will be those specializing in wood-crafted custom cutting boards, bowls, pepper grinders and keepsake boxes, precious metal jewelry and pottery.

Providing market music will be resident acoustic guitarist Rus Reppert. Brunch will be prepared and served by Bridgeport Conference Center. Incorporated into brunch will be the coffee of market vendor Quantum Bean Coffee.

The Nov. 8 market and the Dec. 11 Christmas market will feature a food drive for Shepherd’s Corner. Market shoppers are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for that collection. The theme for the Dec. 11 market will be “Ugly Christmas Sweaters” so Workman suggests that shoppers start lining up their attire for that special market.

She is quite pleased that the winter markets will feature nearly 40 vendors. Last winter, the market averaged 24 vendors.

“They’re opening up the full ballroom for us this year,” she said.

Winter market will be held 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the second Sunday of each month through April.
