Grass-Fed Beef & Hickory Syrup; February Winter Market is Sunday

By Julie Perine on February 01, 2014 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

We can’t take the cold out of the winter, but we can bring the market indoors for some mid-winter warmth. Bridgeport Farmers Market will host another winter market event Sunday at Bridgeport Conference Center.

“We’ve heard from vendors and customers both that they are itching for warm weather and are looking forward to the spring season,” said Bridgeport Farmers Market President Deb Workman. “But the Winter Market will have to do for now and it’s good to have everyone together to discuss plans for spring.”

Between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., browse local produce, grass-fed beef, farm-raised chicken, pork and lamb; baked goods, jams, jellies and corn meal.  Artisan wares will include pottery, wood products, handcrafted jewelry, vintage items and all-natural beauty products. Brand new to the market Sharron’s Hickory Syrup. The alternative to maple syrup is made from hickory bark.

Keeping a guitar pulse will be resident market musician, Rus Reppert. Brunch, prepared by the Conference Center staff, will be available for purchase. To download the menu, click HERE. Reservations can be made by calling 304-808-3000.

Following a successful January market, organizers look forward to the February event.

“The January market was one of the busiest ever in the three years we’ve been having the Winter Markets,” said Bridgeport Farmers Market President Deb Workman.

Winter markets will follow in March and April, with the regular season debut to be held Sunday, May 18.

“We will be back outside in our usual spot at Charles Pointe, every Sunday through October, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Workman said. “New this year will be weekly cooking demonstrations.”

The organization’s first Community Dinner of the season will be held Monday, March 17 at Bridgeport Conference Center. Prepared with local foods, the St. Patrick’s Day feast begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased at this Sunday’s market, by calling Workman at 304-669-4340 or emailing bridgeportfarmersmarket@yahoo.com. All dinner proceeds benefit Bridgeport Farmers Market.

Looking further ahead, the market will host its 4th Annual Country Roads Cook-Off on July 27.
