Floral Design with Cara: Outdoor Entertaining - Floral Tips for Garden Party Hosts

By Cara Ewald on July 18, 2014 from Floral Design with Cara via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Welcome the season of outdoor entertaining, by hosting your very own garden party.  When I think of garden parties, I think of afternoon tea.  Of course, keep the fare light, because it sometimes gets too hot to eat heavy foods in the middle of the afternoon heat of summer.  As far as decor, I suggest picking the right linens, napkins, and tablescape, and of course the most beautiful cut flower arrangements for your centerpieces.  It's a good idea to refrain from using silk flower arrangements because it defeats the purpose of a true garden party, which is to enjoy nature with a few old friends and new acquaintances.  The style of your centerpieces depends upon the style of your garden, which could be wildflower, contemporary, country chic, etc.  Choose wisely!  A contemporary centerpiece may consist of simple moss and stones laid in the center of your tables.  A great wildflower centerpiece may be as simple as one or two blooms in a simple milk bottle or other bottle shaped containers.  For a country chic centerpiece, use an old coffee urn or tea pot for your container with shabby chic blooms or even a mixture of greens, roses, and available blooms from of your garden.  The blooms that you use will of course depend on the month that your party will take place.  When it comes to centerpieces, the most important tip that I have for a garden party host is to use what is readily available if you wish to do-it-yourself, or you can always contract a floral designer to dress up your party with appropriate fabulous blooms.
