Tell us a little about yourself, your family, what you do here in our community, etc.
I’ve been married for almost 30 years to my husband Chris who offers professional counseling at Resolutions Counseling in Bridgeport. We are beginning the transition to the empty nest as our daughters Bailey and Emma are 22 and 19, respectively. Bailey currently lives in Philadelphia and Emma is a sophomore at Liberty University. I’ve spent the past 20+ years as a full-time stay-at-home mom and part-time fitness instructor and was also a youth leader at our church for many years. I’m a “cuddler” for UHC Auxiliary, which is exactly what it sounds like: holding newborn babies! I also serve on the UHC Auxiliary board of directors as the social chair.

1.What is your favorite motivational/self-help book?
It isn’t technically a self-help book, but the Bible is where I discover principles for life.

2. Favorite healthy meal? I eat a variety of foods, but a few of my “go-to’s” are buffalo grilled chicken salad or fish with a salad and/or veggies.

3. Favorite workout? Zumba® class, of course!

4. How do you fit health and wellness into your busy lifestyle? I’ve been a fitness instructor for 25 years, so teaching classes is the primary way I stay fit. I typically teach 5 classes a week. I also enjoy walking, hiking and biking.

5. What is your favorite motivational quote? I love the Corrie Ten Boom quote “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.”

6. How did your health journey start? When I was a freshman in college and discovered that 2 credits of P.E. were required for a degree, I was less than thrilled. Up to that point, I was never really involved in sports or organized fitness. I scoured the course catalog and stumbled across a group fitness class (I don’t remember what it was actually called, maybe aerobics?) I thought that course sounded like the most enjoyable (tolerable) option. I enrolled and ended up loving it! When the course ended, I continued taking group classes, eventually becoming an instructor myself.

7. What songs are on your playlist and motivate you to work out? Teaching dance-fitness formats Zumba®, Aqua Zumba® and REFIT® requires a lot of choreography practice, so my playlist is whatever I’m working on at the time.
8. What are some easy tiny habits that you recommend people start with on their journey? Don’t be afraid to try different activities until you find something you enjoy doing. It doesn’t matter what the latest fitness craze is, if you don’t enjoy it you won’t stick with it. The best exercise is the exercise you will actually DO!
