Time Travel: 1985 Flood Devastates BHS Athletic Complex and Early 1900s Clarksburg Glass Company

By Dick Duez on November 22, 2015 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

It was nearly 30 years ago to the day when the storm of the century hit the area. This photo, taken on Nov. 5, 1985, shows the entire complex at what is now Wayne Jamison Field underwater after Simpson Creek's banks overflowed.

This Harrison County Historical Society photo shows the directors of the West Fork Glass Company located in Clarksburg. In this photo, the only names available were the last names of the directors that include Stewart, Davis, Cunningham, Shuttleworth, Randolph, Robinson, Bowen and Stout. The company lasted 15 years - from 1905 to 1920.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection. Duez, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dick.do@frontier.com.
