Time Travel: A BHS Senior Runs for Harrison County Office and 1961 Clarksburg Route 50 Construction

By Dick Duez on October 21, 2018 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

With elections coming to the area and the nation soon, here's a look back at a time when a Bridgeport High School Senior looked to gain a seat in the Harrison County House of Delegates. Senioir Tom Laulis is shown looking over a press release while his campaign staff of Charlie Fest, J.K. Alfred, Jeff Atkinson and Greg Swiger look on. This photo is from the April, 1980 edition of the Shawnee Pow Wow.
This section of U.S. Route 50 is heavily used today, but it is shown here being worked on in 1961. At the time that work began on expanding Route 50 in this area in 1956, the goal was to get to the area where Interstate 79 is today. The Immaculate Conception Church can be seen in the background.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard
