Time Travel: A Former Restaurant on Main Street and Replacing a Massive Route 50 Taylor County Bridge

By Dick Duez on July 16, 2023 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

This historical building along Main Street was built in 1933 by Abby and Sam Steele as the Millstone Restaurant and is shown here several decades ago as the Bavarian Inn. The building sits on the site of the former Sky Blue Tavern that was built in 1837 when the Northwest Turnpike went through Bridgeport and today is known as U.S. Route 50. Other businesses that have been at the site include Bell Studio and today's Goff Inusrance Service.
Another photo where the date is unknonw, but it shows the removal and replacement of the Fetterman Bridge in Taylor County (Grafton). The section of Route 50 connects directly to Bridgeport and it shows the view heading west toward Harrison County.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dickdo@citynet.net.
