Time Travel: A Look at Johnson Avenue from 1987 and a Rewind to Regional Prep Football Team in 1930

By Dick Duez on October 08, 2023 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Does this look familiar? It may not today, but this is Johnson Avenue in and the acreage to the left being cleared is where Sheetz sits today. This photo, from 1987, shows a lot of area that had yet to be developed, including all of State Street. Anyone see anything else unique? If so, add a comment below.
This is the 1930 Cairo High School football team. The school was opened in 1913 and the Ritchie County Board of Education opted to close it down in 1971.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dickdo@citynet.net.
