Time Travel: A Look at Pure Food Store's Main Street Version and Opening of Route 50 Bypass in 1961

By Dick Duez on December 02, 2018 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Although the exact date of this photo is unknown, it is one of the locations of the well-known Pure Food Store in Bridgeport. This view is of its location on Main Street, below Ford Funeral home. A notation in the photograph said the site opened in 1953 and closed here in 1973.
This is a look at what was once called the U.S. Route 50 bypass and you can see where the eastbound lane (left side) has an off ramp to Third Street in Clarksburg and also on the left is the old Centra Bus Terminal building. The first bridge is the one existing today that takes individuals into the Glen Elk section of the ctiy. This photo is from 1961.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard
