Time Travel: Aerial Downtown Photo from 1980s as Well One Near the Affluent Waldo Hotel in 1944

By Dick Duez on April 24, 2022 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

See anything you recognize in this photo believed to be from the early 1980s, or roughly 40 years ago. The street running straight across the middle to bottom portion of the pages in Main Street and the other main artery shown is Philadelphia Avenue. Things have changed plenty since this photo, courtesy of Mike Corder, was taken.
This photo shows the intersection of Fourth Street and Pike Street in downtown Clarksburg in 1944. The building with cars lined around it is the once famous Waldo Hotel. The hotel played host to dignitaries all the way up to the president of the United States. Today, many would say it is in a state of disrepair as talk continues on demolishing the once glorious structure.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts Duez to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dickdo@citynet.net.
