Time Travel: At Least One Bridgeport Icon on this Hoops Team and Long-Standing Clarksburg Structure

By Dick Duez on May 01, 2016 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Who do you recognize in this photo submitted for Time Travel use by Ann Nicewarner? Her father-in-law, the late Phil "Sonny" Nicewarner is shown wearing number 42, just to the right of the man wearing number 25, which is the late Angelo Basile. The man on the far left is identified as Rex Pyles, the Alderson-Broaddus coaching legend, while the official on the far left standing beside Pyles is none other than Sheriff Tiano. If you know who anyone else is or what this team represented, as it does not appear to be a college squad, please include in the comment section below.

This building stood for decades on the corner of 4th and Pike Streets in downtown Clarksburg. Today, it is a vacant lot that is available for development. The last known business in the main part of the building on the first floor was believed to be Marion's Beauty Salon.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection. Duez, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dick.do@frontier.com.
