Time Travel: Business on Corner of Virginia and Main and an Early 1900s Look at Clarksburg's Waldo Hotel

This site may or may not be familiar, but will be once you recognize the location. This gas station and the building housing it, built in 1952, is located on the corner of Virginia and Main. The structture was acquired, and recently demolished, by the City of Bridgeport. It has been home to numerous gas stations, the last of which was a Getty Gas Station, convenience stores, a used car lot, and a used appliance store was the final business in it before it was taken down. The future use of the highly visible lot has yet to be determined.

This is a postcard from the West Virginia & Regional History Center showing the Waldomore, left in the background, and the Waldo Hotel to the right. The post card is dated between 1900 and 1910. The Waldomore is still functioning today, whlie the future of the Waldo is in doubt as it has been closed off to the public and is in what many consider a state of disrepair.
