Time Travel: City United Methodist Church 1975 Choir and Upshur County Community Band in Early 1900s

By Dick Duez on June 20, 2021 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

This is the Bridgeport United Methodist Church Choir from 1975. The names are as follows (apologies for any spelled incorrectly), front row from left, Pat Ellenburger, Patty Hartzell, Linda Watkins, Mabel Dye, Roberta Short, and Mary Jo Brown. Second row, from left, Helen Golden, Ethel Brooking, Sharon Hamrick, Jeanette Fast (sp), Wanda Curran, Flodine Martinez, and Mary Sloughenovpt (sp). Third row, from left, Jim Frush, Joyce Jamison, Dorris Frush, Margaret Palmer, Kathryn Payne, and Maxine Sturm. Fourth row, from left, Glen Morrison, Ch. Hartzell, George Eversale, Tom Ellenburger, and Bud McClain.
In the early 1900s, most small towns had a community band. The southern Upshur County community of Alexander was no exception. This is their version from that time period.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection. Duez, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dickdo@citynet.net.
