Time Travel: First Main Street Fire Department Project and a 1950's Clarksburg Ice Cream Shop Hot Spot

By Dick Duez on February 18, 2024 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

This photo, believed to be from September of 1994, shows beams going up for what would eventually become a then state-of-the-art fire station on Bridgeport's Main Street. In 2023, a multi-million makeover to the building, along with additions, were made. If anyone has more definitive thought on the date of the photo please add it in the comment section below.
Who remember's Russel's Dairy Bar? This photo taken by Duke Ellis, is from 1951 and was a hangout for high school students from Washington Irving and Roosevelt-Wilson. It was located at 704 East Main Street on the lot where Hardee's is located today. If you have any memories about this place, feel free to add them to the comment section below.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dickdo@citynet.net.
