Time Travel: Flashing Back to Main Street Business in 1962 and Inside Pendleton County Store in 1975

By Dick Duez on March 08, 2020 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

his will look familiar to many in Bridgeport. This photo was taken in 1962 and is of the former Handy Shop, or Handy News Stand located across the  street from the Benedum Civic Center. It was a stopping point for many in the city and beyond. If you have any fond memories of this business please post them  below.
Not a lot of information on this photo, but it is labeled as "DOE Hill" and is from 1975 in Pendleton County. It's the inside of a local conveniece store that has a nifty stove in the middle of the store. If you know anything about this photo, comment on it in the section below.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection. Duez, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dick.do@citynet.net.
