Time Travel: Gov. Gaston Caperton Presents a Check to Bridgeport Officials and Lumberport's First Trolley

By Dick Duez on April 14, 2024 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Although not everyone is identified and the event is not certain, this photo from 1991 appears to involve the presentation of a Land and Water Conservation Fund Check to the City of Bridgeport at a location believed to be Charleston. Those known in the photo, from far right, are Gov. Gaston Caperton, Councilman Chuck Lindsey, Mayor Carl Furbee, P&R Director Don Burton, and Councilman Larry Blankenship. The man and the woman to the far right are unknown. If you know who they are or have further details on this, please comment in the comment section below.
This photo goes back more than 100 years - to 1912  to be exact - and shows the first trolley in operation in Lumberport.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dickdo@citynet.net
