Time Travel: Holiday Plaza and Lodgeville in 1970s and Taking a Summer Lewis County Lake Riley Trip

By Dick Duez on April 07, 2024 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

A lot to take in and a few questions regarding this photo believed to be from the 1970s. It shows the Holiday Plaza (now Gabe's Plaza) when it was home to Kroger and Heck's, which can be slightly seen on the Holiday Plaza sign as well as just over the roofline of the Holiday Inn that is now a Best Western. Also, Bonanza, which is now home to Brickside Bar & Grille, appears to have it's parking lot extendig all the way to the intersection of U.S. Route 50 and Lodgeville. And the familiary Riggs' Exxon station is shown. The lot today is the home of a Walgreens. Anyone else see anything unique? If so, share in the comments section below.
Anyone remember Lake Riley in Lewis County? Anyone remember its golf course. It was a popular destination for many and, at this time of the year decades ago, its opening would be highly anticipated. Anyone with any memories, please feel free to share them in the comment section below.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history.
