Time Travel: Johnson, Lodgeville Area Decades Ago and a Beached Virginia Steamboat in Mason County

By Dick Duez on February 11, 2024 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Look familar? It should. The bottom left corner shows the intersection of Johnson Avenue and Lodgeville Road with the long road heading toward the middle of the photo Johnson Avenue. The business at the bottom is 84 Lumber, which recently went out of business. The vacant clear lot today is the home of Dan Cava's Buick GMC, while there is also no Sheetz to found. Anyone have a good guess to the date of the image? If so, please add it in the comment section below.
Here is something you don't see every day - or century. This photo is from 1911 and shows a Virginia Steamboat "beached" after high waters in Mason, West Virginia, which is in Mason County.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dickdo@citynet.net.
