Time Travel: Legendary BHS Football Coaching Staff and Traveling by Way of Train from a Busy Glen Elk

By Dick Duez on April 26, 2020 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

This photo, perhaps from the 1960s, shows a legendary Bridgeport High School coaching staff for football. Top row, from left, is Nile Goff, Philip "Sonny" Nicewarner and Wayne Smiley Jamison. Bottom, from left is O.D. Williams and Randy Thornton. The group led the team to an undefated season in the early 1960s.
Although rail travel is all but a thing of the past, at one time it was a booming industry in Clarksburg's Glen Elk section - even presidents would make stops on campaign tours there.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection. Duez, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dick.do@citynet.net.
