Time Travel: Long-Time Main Street Business Back in 1987 and 1940s WWII West Union Support Gathering

By Dick Duez on May 07, 2023 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

It has been in business for decades on Bridgeport's Main Street, and it is still operating and going strong in 2023. This is a 1987 photo of Hadorn Distributing, which is still in the same location today.
The exact nature of this photo is unclear, but it is from West Union in Doddridge County. It is believed to be showing people showing support for the United States, perhaps waiting for a parade, near the start of World War II. One of the sign says "Use Axes on the Axis," which was a phrase that came into play for Germany, Japan, and Italy in 1940. Another sign has the words "Pearl Harbor" on it, which would signify this photo came after Dec. 7 of 1941.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection. , the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dickdo@citynet.net.
