Time Travel: Looking Back to Prominent City Business and 1970 in Small McDowell County Community

By Dick Duez on December 13, 2020 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Many in Bridgeport likely remember when Riggs Exxon was situated on the corner of Route 50-MainStreet and Lodgeville Road on the Bridgeport side of the intersection. It served the community from that location locally and beyond for many years. Today, the site is home to a Walgreens Phamracy. This photo, however, is shortly after it became Exxon One Stop and the business moved. Although no longer a gas station, Riggs Service Center, owned by the late Bob Riggs, located on Firefly Lane off of Lodgeville Road is operating today under the management of the family. Feel free to share any memories of this business from year's past.
This photo from 970 shows the main drag of the small community of Bradshaw in McDowell County. According to the 2010 Census, the community had a population of 337.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection. Duez, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dick.do@citynet.net.
