Time Travel: Michael Benedum Visiting the Bridgeport Cemetery and Clarksburg's Manhattan Restaurant

By Dick Duez on January 14, 2024 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The four individuals pictured here appear to be, from left, Father Carroll, former Governor Homer Holt, Michael Benedum and Mayor Joe Deegan. The Oct. 13, 1940 photo shows the laying of the cornerstone at the chapel that is still located today on the grounds at the Bridgeport Cemetery.
In this photo from the 1950s, an unidentified man stands in front of the old Manhattan Restaurant in downtown Clarksburg. Anyone with memories of this restaurant or perhaps who the man pictured is, please include in the comments below.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dickdo@citynet.net. Please note a photo previously here has been removed as it came to our attention the photo was taken by Dave Ferrell and the negative was owned by Dan Kemper.
